Ruby Bute (1943, Aruba; residing in St. Martin)

Ruby Bute is certainly one of the most multifaceted artists in the Caribbean. Famous as a painter, she is also admired for her poems, with two published volumes: "Golden Voices of S'Maatin" and "Floral Bouquets to the Daughters of Eve".

As a master storyteller and painter, Ruby Bute has, during 30 years, never stopped to declare her love for St. Martin. Not surprisingly, her paintings and poems reflect historical and sociological aspects of St. Martin's lifestyle and culture, as well as its natural beauty.

Ruby's strong images capture the joyousness of carnival, the serenity of old homes and ancestral landscapes.

The bright colors, the warm expressive faces of beloved musicians, her portraits of children and "Dem Ole Days" are testimonies of her understanding of the heart and soul of St. Martin.
