Lucia Trifan (1949, Tifesti, Romania – residing in St. Martin)

Trifan’s work reveals an authentic and absolute sense of primitivism, one could say as an ultimate act of survival. She depicts groups of symbols that emerge from the depths of primal humanity and her paintings can be understood by anyone despite their cultural background. Trifan expresses herself strongly from the soul and reflects within her work the terrible wounds of life which are healed through her crystal sense of humor. Her unique attitude makes her stand out compared to the virtuous and known tracks of the academies of art.

The incredible balance of her work speaks with colours, as well as cultural settlements on to a sub-graphic surface, which are the making of that pictorial experience, a major adventure into modern aestheticism and deep drama. Artists Paul Klee, Juan Miro, Andre Masson, Kokoshka or Leroy Exil of Haiti are all master references to Trifan, who continues to push her limits within her free and private kingdom or queendom.

1976 – 1979  Romania Fine Arts school Brascov, graduating with degrees in Ceramics and Sculpture
