    Jozef Cornelis (Nechi) Pieters (1898, Curaçao -  † 1960)

Pieters was a painter who had a major influence on the broader development of the visual arts in Curaçao. He was one of the first outside the framework of the 'upper class' on the island, which took up the brush. He visited a 'skol por nada', set up by the friars, who offered free education to the less fortunate.
In 1937 he received this teachers degree ‘LO drawing’  and in 1939 received an honorable mention at the exhibition "Contemporary Art of 79 Countries' in San Francisco. His work is seen as academic in a impressionistic style.

The Roman Catholic primary school 'Kolegio Nechi Pieters' in Buena Vista and the street Kaya Nechi Pieters' are named after him.
